In 1970 and 1971, the Supreme Court heard the school board's appeal in Swann v. Charotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. After months of study and deliberation, the Supreme Court upheld Judge McMillan's previous ruling. Busing was a valid option to end school segregation.
