The year 2011 marks the fortieth anniversary of the Supreme Court's Swann decision. For several decades, Charlotte's schools remained integrated. In the late 1990s, however, court rulings ended mandatory busing for integrationist purposes. Since then, an emerging pattern of resegregation again divides Charlotte's schools along class and racial lines. Even now, problems persist as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools adapt to a growing, diverse city in a new century.
